Read as one block of text, a thread turns into a monologue by nobody: twenty commenters in one voice, and no way to hear that a comment answers the one above it. Reddit and Hacker News already put that structure in the page — who wrote each comment, and how deeply it is nested. Lullula turns it into sound.

What you hear, and why
A different voice per commenter
Voices are handed out in the order people first comment, so the voices you hear first are the easiest to tell apart. When someone comments again, you hear the same voice.
A tone for each deeper reply
A short tone sounds when a comment answers the one before it. Stepping back up the thread is silent, so the tones mark replies rather than every change of speaker.
Only the discussion
Pinned moderator notices, AutoModerator and deleted comments are left out. Each sentence still highlights as it is read, so you can glance back at who said what.
What leaves your browser
With built-in browser voices, the thread is spoken on your device. With a premium voice, the text being read is sent to Lullula's service and on to the speech provider that voices it. When the reading player appears, a short AI summary of the thread is written automatically, which sends its text too; you can turn summaries off in the extension's settings. Lullula does not sell your reading activity. The Privacy Policy names every service involved.
Questions about listening to threads
Which sites does it work on?
Comment threads on Reddit (www.reddit.com) and Hacker News item pages (news.ycombinator.com). Other pages are read as ordinary articles. The older old.reddit.com layout is not read as a conversation.
How many different voices will I hear?
It depends on the voices available to you. If you have chosen a premium voice, the commenters get premium voices too, and most threads can give everyone their own. With your browser's built-in voices the choice depends on your system; when a thread has more commenters than voices, voices are reused at a slightly different pitch so people still sound distinct.
Can I choose each person's voice or turn the tones off?
Not yet. Voices are assigned automatically, in the order people first comment, and there is no setting for the tones. The post itself is always read in the voice you chose.
Does it read every comment?
It reads the comments that are loaded on the page, in the order they appear. Replies Reddit keeps collapsed behind “more replies” are not included. Pinned moderator notices, AutoModerator, deleted comments and replies with nothing to say out loud are skipped.
Is it free?
Yes. Built-in browser voices are free and unlimited. Premium neural voices and AI summaries use a monthly word allowance, the same as on any other page.
